Gospel singer Alfred Kisembe, popularly known as Alkinyo, was the star of the show as Bunge FC defeated Mombasa County Assembly 3-1 to win the Mombasa International Agricultural Show football tournament.
Kisembe delivered a standout performance in the final, scoring twice before Laban Ndege added a third goal to seal victory for the parliamentary side.
The triumph capped an entertaining and demanding campaign for Bunge FC, who overcame a series of tough opponents before producing their most decisive performance in the final at the Mombasa Showground.
Kisembe leads Bunge FC to glory
The gospel musician, who has been making waves in Kenya’s gospel scene, proved that his talents extend beyond music after finding the back of the net twice in the championship decider.
Kisembe, popularly known as Alkinyo, has been steadily building his profile as a gospel artiste.
His worship song “Ainuliwe Yesu” has attracted attention among gospel music enthusiasts, while his music has also been made available on platforms including Skiza Tune.
His football exploits in Mombasa now add an unexpected sporting chapter to his growing public profile.
After Kisembe’s brace put Bunge FC in a commanding position, Ndege completed the scoring to ensure the parliamentary team walked away with the coveted trophy.
Tough road to the final
Bunge FC’s championship run was far from straightforward.
The team began its campaign on September 2 with a 1-1 draw against Hamburg FC at Serani, before returning to action two days later against Kwale MCAs FC.
Bunge FC edged the Kwale side 2-1 at the Mombasa Showground Arena, setting the stage for another encounter later that same day.
Their second match of the day turned into a goal-scoring spectacle as they battled Mombasa Sports Club to a thrilling 4-4 draw.
The result demonstrated Bunge FC’s attacking quality but also highlighted the physical demands of a tournament schedule that required the players to perform twice in one day.
The parliamentary side nevertheless regrouped and saved its best performance for the final.
Against Mombasa County Assembly, Kisembe and Ndege provided the goals while the entire team produced a disciplined display to secure the 3-1 victory.
Senator Faki adds political flavour to triumph
Mombasa Senator Hon. Faki also had a personal connection to the tournament, having sponsored the championship trophy and featured for Bunge FC during the competition.
His participation added an interesting political dimension to an event that brought together legislators and local footballers in a sporting contest away from the political arena.
Bunge FC is the football team associated with Kenya’s Parliament and has previously represented the country in regional parliamentary competitions.
The team’s captain, Rarieda MP Dr Otiende Amollo, has also been involved in efforts to strengthen Parliament’s sporting activities.
Parliament has previously documented Bunge FC’s participation in regional competitions, including the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games.
In July 2025, Bunge FC members also visited Harambee Stars during their preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), offering encouragement and support to the national team.
Football takes centre stage at Mombasa Show
The football tournament formed part of the broader Mombasa International Agricultural Show, which ran from September 2 to 6, 2026, at the Mombasa Showground.
The annual event brought together players from agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, transport, wildlife and other sectors, with more than 200 exhibitors and hundreds of livestock expected at the 2026 edition.
The Agricultural Society of Kenya describes its exhibitions as platforms for sharing agricultural information while promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives.
This year’s Mombasa show also featured other sporting activities, underscoring how the annual exhibition has evolved beyond agriculture and trade to become a major social and community gathering on the Coast.
A memorable double for Kisembe
For Kisembe, the Mombasa triumph offers another reason for celebration after an active year in gospel music.
Known to his fans as Alkinyo, the singer has been promoting worship music, with “Ainuliwe Yesu” emerging as one of his notable releases.
Nairobi News reported in August that the singer was continuing to build momentum with the worship song, which focuses on exalting Jesus and encouraging believers.
Now, the gospel singer can add a football trophy to his growing list of achievements.
Bunge FC’s 3-1 victory over Mombasa County Assembly ultimately provided the perfect ending to a campaign characterised by goals, resilience and teamwork.
For the parliamentary team, the Mombasa title represents more than just another trophy.
It is a reminder that Kenya’s legislators can also compete on the sporting field and, on this occasion, they had a gospel singer leading the charge.
