One-year-old boy dies after being accidentally hit while father pruned fence in Nandi village


A one-year-old boy died after he was accidentally struck on the back of the head while his father was pruning a compound fence in Nandi South.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 4 p.m. as the father was pruning the compound fence.

The childreportedly crawled underneath the fence from the opposite side, where his father was working.

The father allegedly swung the cutting tool without noticing the child, striking him at the back of the head and causing serious injuries.

The boy was rushed to Kaptumo Sub-County Hospital and later referred to Kapsabet Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile police in Turbo have arrested a man following the death of a woman who was found unconscious on a farm in the Juakali area.

A worker discovered the woman lying unconscious under a tree at around 8:30 a.m. while taking cattle to a grazing field within the farm.

The worker raised an alarm, prompting other employees to respond and rush the woman to Mercy Hospital in Juakali Trading Centre for treatment.

One of the workers who assisted was identified the woman as Lydia Jeptoo, his former girlfriend.

The deceased was reportedly found with bruises on both thighs.

The man was arrested and is being held in custody to assist with investigations. The body was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police investigations are ongoing.

And a 100-year-old woman died after a fire consumed her one-room timber house in Gautine village, Maara Sub-County, on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Beatrice Mukawaiti, who lived alone in the house located in Mugumango Location, Mukui Sub-Location.

Police said the woman was last seen alive at around 6:30 p.m., when she had lit a fire near her bed to keep warm.

The victim’s body was found completely burnt beyond recognition and was identified by her son.

The remains were moved to Chuka Level 5 County Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending autopsy and final disposal.

The cause of the fire is yet to be conclusively established.
