President William Ruto has met Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe at State House, Nairobi, as Kenya steps up preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Motsepe and his delegation were in Kenya to assess the country’s readiness ahead of the continental tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania in June and July 2027.
During the meeting, CAF commended Kenya for the progress made on key sporting infrastructure, including the newly constructed Talanta Sports City Stadium and the ongoing upgrades at Kasarani Stadium.
Motsepe expressed confidence that the three East African nations would deliver a successful tournament.
“CAF is confident that the three East African countries would host a very successful tournament,” Motsepe said.
The President assured CAF that Kenya remains committed to ensuring that the country is fully prepared to host the continental football spectacle.
“We are committed to hosting a successful event,” Ruto said.
He added that the government was working to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is completed on time and meets the required standards ahead of the tournament.
“Everything is therefore being done to make sure that all the necessary infrastructure is ready on time and at the required standard,” he said.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are jointly preparing to host AFCON 2027, with the tournament expected to provide an opportunity for the region to showcase its sporting facilities and football culture.
Ruto said Kenya was looking forward to delivering a memorable tournament for football fans across the continent and beyond.
“We are committed to showcasing a classic football bonanza for Africa and the world,” he said.
The President also said Kenyans would use the tournament to demonstrate their passion and talent for football.
“Kenyans will display their love, passion and talent for the game during the tournament,” Ruto added.
