Police have recovered a loaded AK47 riffle that was robbed from a police officer in Kaptembwo, Nakuru County.
The weapon was recovered Wednesday February 19 from a lodging in Huruma estate, Eldoret.
This was two days after the incident.
A suspect was arrested before he led detectives to the scene. The weapon was taken to custody as the hunt for more suspects goes on.
Police say the thieves behind the incident planned to use it in crime.
A police officer had been arrested after he lost the AK47 rifle in unclear circumstances.
This is after he failed to return his firearm to the armory on February 17 night.
He and his colleague had picked up the weapons for patrols and when time to return the same came he failed to do so.
During the patrols, he said, he had excused himself to visit his residence in the area. It was then he met to strangers in Mosaik area who also claimed to be police officers and accompanied him to a bar and later to his house.
He later blacked out and woke up in the morning he found the strangers missing.
His weapon with a magazine was also missing.
Police visited the scene and staged a search in vain.
Police suspect the officer was drugged and blacked out to enable the stealing of the weapon.
It was then a probe was launched leading to the recovery two days later.
