President William Ruto has taken a pointed jab at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently impeached by both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on November 1, Ruto expressed his frustrations regarding a sense of isolation within the executive branch.
Over the past two years, Ruto revealed that he often had to represent the government alone, detailing projects and initiatives without assistance from his deputy.
“I have become a lonely voice in the executive, particularly in the presidency,” he lamented, emphasizing the need for a supportive partnership in leadership.
During the ceremony, Ruto voiced his confidence in Kindiki’s ability to fulfill the responsibilities of his new role.
“I have had to take on the burden of explaining our programs.
I trust that you will bring the support I’ve missed over the past two years,” he stated, highlighting Kindiki’s potential to contribute effectively.
The President praised Kindiki as a dedicated and competent leader, pointing to his previous successes as evidence of his capabilities.
Ruto underscored Kindiki’s readiness to serve on behalf of the Kenyan people and expressed high expectations for his performance in office.
“I am honored to witness Prof. Kindiki’s swearing-in as the third Deputy President of Kenya since the new Constitution was enacted.
He has consistently demonstrated excellence and commitment in all his roles,” Ruto noted.
In his comments, Ruto called attention to the need for strong voices within the executive to achieve the nation’s constitutional aspirations.
This was the first time Ruto publicly addressed Gachagua’s impeachment, a matter that had remained unspoken since his return from the United Nations General Assembly.
On October 17, Gachagua was impeached following a decisive Senate vote, with allegations including gross violations of the Constitution and breaches of the National Cohesion and Integrity Act.
Despite these accusations, many lawmakers defended Gachagua against claims of money laundering.
