Ride-hailing platform Bolt has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that it plans to cease operations in Kenya next week, describing the claims as false, misleading and malicious.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 1, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for East Africa, Dimmy Kanyankole, refuted a viral letter that purported to announce the company’s closure in Kenya effective Monday, June 8.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is fake and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” Kanyankole said.
The company assured its customers, driver-partners and delivery partners that its operations in Kenya remain unaffected and will continue as normal.
“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” the statement added.
The clarification follows widespread circulation of the purported closure notice on social media platforms, sparking concern among thousands of drivers and customers who depend on the platform for transport services and income generation.
Bolt is among Kenya’s largest ride-hailing companies, serving thousands of users daily while providing economic opportunities for drivers, riders and delivery partners across several towns and cities.
The company said it has launched investigations to establish the source of the fabricated document and hold those responsible accountable.
“We are currently investigating the source of the fabricated document and will take appropriate action against the creation and dissemination of misleading information that misrepresents the company,” Bolt stated.
The firm urged members of the public to disregard the circulating letter and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic and confusion.
Bolt further advised customers and partners to rely on the company’s official communication channels, including its website, verified social media platforms and mobile application, for accurate information regarding its operations.
The company reiterated its commitment to the Kenyan market, noting that it remains focused on expanding access to affordable transport services while supporting livelihoods through its digital platform.
