Director General of Immigration Services Evelyn Cheluget has dedicated her East Africa Public Sector Leadership Champion of the Year 2026 Award to immigration officers across the country, praising their professionalism, patriotism and resilience in safeguarding Kenya’s borders and national security.
During the 2026 East Africa Superwoman Awards gala held at the Argyle Grand Hotel on Saturday, organisers recognised women leaders from across East Africa for excellence and transformative leadership, and Cheluget received the regional honour.
Speaking after receiving the award, Cheluget said the recognition reflected the collective efforts and commitment of officers and staff within the Immigration Department in ensuring efficient service delivery and secure border management.
“I dedicate this award to all immigration officers and staff across the country whose tireless efforts in safeguarding our borders, enhancing service delivery and protecting national security continue to make a difference every day,” she stated.
She also said that her recognition should inspire more women in leadership to continue breaking barriers, overcome challenges and create pathways for others to succeed.
Cheluget, a career immigration officer, was recognised for her leadership in the public sector amid growing calls for increased representation of women in senior government positions.
The awards, held under the theme “Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Leading Ahead,” brought together leaders from government, business, education, civil society and community organisations to celebrate women making an impact in leadership, innovation and mentorship.
Participants at the forum emphasised the need for stronger support systems, mentorship and investment in girls’ education to prepare more women for leadership opportunities in future.
The event also highlighted the growing role of women in business and entrepreneurship. Speakers also applauded female professionals for contributing to economic growth, job creation and innovation.
Founder and CEO of the awards Fred Kyalo also said the initiative seeks to honour women who go beyond personal success to positively shape society and uplift communities.
Other award recipients included Lulu Hassan, Mwanahamisi Amadi and media personality Pauline Shegu.
