Chris Bumstead earned his International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) Pro Card at 21 years old after winning the 2016 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championship. He placed third in his first professional show. 

Later, he won both the 2017 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro and the 2017 IFBB Toronto Pro Supershow. At his first Mr. Olympia competition that same year, he finished second in the Classic Physique category. Most notably, it was a remarkable feat for a first-time competitor.

In 2018, he maintained his runner-up position at the Mr. Olympia competition. His significant breakthrough came in 2019 when he won his first Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title. This achievement opened the way for more historic six-year consecutive winning streak to 2024.

In 2022, he transitioned to working with top coach Hany Rambod. He retired from Classic Physique competition after claiming his sixth Mr. Olympia title in October 2024.
