Content creator laments as AI billboards take over Nairobi roads

A Nairobi-based content creator, Ngug.i, has come out to call out graphic designers who are using artificial intelligence to create images for various billboards.

Ngug.i expressed his frustration after coming across several billboards along one of Nairobi’s busiest roads, many of which displayed glaring errors and blunders.

In a video posted on his Instagram page and later shared by BNN, the content creator criticised companies that hire graphic designers who rely heavily on AI, ultimately producing substandard work.

In his commentary, Ngug.i admitted that most companies and individuals now depend on AI, but warned that the concept could soon lose credibility due to the visible mistakes.

He cited a Del Monte billboard as an example, noting that it featured a woman with unrealistic fingers and hands.

The content creator maintained that while AI threatens numerous job opportunities for many Kenyans, its widespread adoption could become an uphill task if such unprofessional and unrealistic images continue to dominate billboards and other platforms.

“Whoever prompted this, one can tell kuna ufala because what’s real these days? Definitely not those hands, man. Del Monte, definitely not the hands. And you can tell this guy legitimately fvbjed up. When you start seeing it, you start seeing it everywhere. You see that? That’s too ugly to be AI. AI is what we want. Ugly things,” Ngug.i said.

His sentiments were echoed by many netizens, who confirmed having spotted several other poorly executed AI-generated billboards across the city.
