CS Musalia Mudavadi highlights agriculture and blue economy as key drivers of Kenya’s growth

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Kenya’s economy, sustaining millions of livelihoods and contributing nearly a third of the nation’s GDP.

He noted that modernizing the sector is essential to creating more jobs, adding value, and unlocking opportunities for Kenyans.

Mudavadi made the remarks during a meeting with Ms. Farayi Zimudzi, the newly appointed FAO Kenya Representative, who was presenting her credentials.

The discussions focused on the urgent need to accelerate agricultural mechanization and position Kenya’s young, educated, and energetic population at the center of modern agricultural production and value chains.

The meeting also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration between the Government of Kenya and FAO to scale investment in the blue economy, a strategic pillar under Vision 2030.

By fully leveraging Kenya’s waters, officials said the country can drive economic growth, expand jobs in fishing, tourism, and maritime services, and improve livelihoods for communities nationwide.
