Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for a suspect who fatally stabbed a digital taxi driver following a dispute in Nairobi.
The incident occurred over the weekend in Kitusuru after the driver, Kenneth Kimani Gachoka, picked up a passenger from a petrol station in Westlands and drove him to Chrisco Christian Church.
According to investigators, an argument broke out upon arrival at the destination.
During the confrontation, the passenger is alleged to have stabbed Gachoka in the neck.
Despite the severe injury, the driver managed to flee and alert his colleagues, who rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Before succumbing to his injuries, Gachoka reportedly recounted the attack to his fellow drivers, explaining how the passenger suddenly turned violent.
Police officers later visited the scene and towed the vehicle to the station as investigations continue.
Gachoka’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Detectives have also reviewed CCTV footage from the petrol station where the suspect boarded the vehicle in an effort to identify and track him down.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station as the search intensifies.
This killing comes barely a week after another brutal murder in the city, involving 30-year-old boda boda rider and father of three, Antony Otieno.
Otieno was found dead inside Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi, in what police believe was a planned attack linked to a botched phone delivery.
His body was discovered under a bed in apartment number 72 on the fifth floor, bound at the head and legs, with a scarf stuffed in his mouth.
Investigations revealed that what was supposed to be a routine delivery of a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max turned fatal.
Detectives recovered a knife, a metal rod suspected to be the murder weapon, and the phone Otieno was delivering. His motorcycle was found parked outside the building.
The apartment had reportedly been paid for in cash, just hours before the killing, by two unidentified men.
Police have yet to make any arrests or announce significant progress in the case.
