Directorate of Immigration Service (DIS) has introduced a series of reforms to enhance its operations and meet the growing demand for passport and immigration services.
These changes focus on improving efficiency increasing transparency and decentralizing services to make them more accessible to the public.
1. Clearance of Passport Backlog
To tackle the longstanding issue of passport backlogs the DIS has invested in advanced printing technology and increased staffing.

These measures have helped clear the block log of unprinted passports enabling the agency to better meet demand.
2.Expansion of Regional Offices
To ease congestion at the Nyayo House headquarters the DIS has opened regional offices in Kericho and Bungoma with plans to expand further into Garissa, Nyeri and Machakos.
The goal is to decentralize operations and improve access to services for people outside Nairobi, with potential expansions planned for other counties based on demand.
3.Dedicated Desks for Labour Migration
Recognizing the need for specialized services the DIS has set up dedicated counters to fast-track passport applications for Kenyans seeking job opportunities abroad.
Applicants must provide the necessary documentation to qualify for expedited processing.
4. Open and Transparent Services
In a move to increase transparency the DIS has listed passport fees and other services on its official website.
The agency has also committed to eliminating bribery ensuring that all services are provided without the need for inducements.
Applicants can track their applications via SMS further promoting openness.
5. Uncollected Passports
Currently, over 65, 000 passports remain uncollected across various offices.
To expedite collection the DIS has suspended the appointment booking requirement allowing applicants to pick up their documents directly.
