Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Aden Duale, has called for unity among Kenyans, urging both religious communities Christians and Muslims and all tribes to live harmoniously.
Speaking at an event in Garissa County, Duale emphasized the importance of national cohesion, stressing that unity should be prioritized over divisions that sometimes arise along religious and ethnic lines.
Duale also took the opportunity to address a concerning issue, urging leaders to stop profiling public servants, particularly those from the northern regions of Kenya.
He highlighted that certain individuals in positions of power have been unfairly profiling security personnel from the region, which he described as both unjust and harmful to the spirit of unity.
“Some leaders have been involved in profiling individuals like the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohamed I. Amin.
These individuals were appointed to their positions because they were qualified, not because of their backgrounds or affiliations,” Duale said.
He called for an end to such negative stereotyping, which only serves to create divisions within the public service.
In addition to addressing these issues, Duale also touched on the removal of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached from his post.
Duale explained that Gachagua’s removal was due to accusations of tribalism and incompetence.
“President William Ruto made it clear that he could not work with Gachagua because of the lack of professionalism and the tribal divisions he caused during his time in office,” Duale stated.
Duale’s remarks were aimed at encouraging greater unity and professionalism within Kenya’s leadership.
He emphasized that the country’s future relies on individuals working together for the common good, setting aside tribalism and personal interests for the sake of national development.
His speech resonated with many who are calling for an end to ethnic and political divisions, especially in sensitive sectors like national security.
As the country grapples with issues of unity and governance, Duale’s call for inclusivity and professionalism within the public service and the broader political sphere is timely.
The government’s commitment to promoting national cohesion continues to be a priority, as leaders and citizens alike strive to build a more unified Kenya.
