Two suspects arrested in Rongai as Police recover stolen firearm

Detectives have arrested two suspects and recovered a firearm previously stolen from a police officer during a coordinated security operation in Rongai, Kajiado North Sub-County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the intelligence-led operation was carried out jointly by officers from DCI Kajiado North and Ngong Police Station in the Kware and Mandazi Road areas.

The suspects, identified as Cyrus Mureithi Mburu (54) and Peter Kangethe (49), were apprehended following a targeted raid.

“A search conducted at one of the suspect’s residences led to the recovery of a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a half-litre of gun oil,” detectives said in a statement.

Further investigations led officers to recover a Ceska pistol, believed to have been stolen from an officer attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB).

Authorities also seized two imitation firearms, a pair of handcuffs, keys, and a Maasai sword during the operation.

“The firearm and all other recovered items have been secured as exhibits as investigations continue,” the DCI added.

The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations into the matter intensify.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime and protecting both the public and government assets.

“We remain steadfast in pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities and ensuring they are brought to justice,” the agency stated.

Members of the public have been urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities through the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative.
