The Embu County Security Committee has requested additional time to investigate the disappearance of 24-year-old Billy Mwangi, after local residents issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding his safe return.
On Friday, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji led a demonstration with other concerned residents, threatening to continue their protests if Mwangi is not located.
Embu County Police Commander Samuel Muthami called for patience, assuring the public that security teams are working diligently on the case.
“We are actively investigating the abduction of Billy Mwangi and have already received a formal petition from his parents, along with concerns raised during yesterday’s protests,” Muthami stated.
He emphasized that there is no need for additional protests, as the authorities are fully aware of the residents’ concerns.
Muthami appealed for the planned demonstrations to be canceled on Monday to allow law enforcement to focus on the ongoing investigation.
Mercy Gatobu, the Embu West Deputy Commissioner, spoke on behalf of Embu County Commissioner Jack Obour, urging calm among residents.
Gatobu confirmed that a joint security committee had met to review Friday’s demonstrations and strategize on how best to address the situation.
“We are aware of the planned demonstrations circulating on social media. We urge residents to allow us time to address their concerns and resolve the matter,” she said.
The security team emphasized their commitment to solving the case and requested that protest organizers give investigators the space and time necessary to conduct their work.
While tensions remain high in the community, authorities are confident that their coordinated efforts will lead to finding Billy Mwangi and addressing the public’s concerns.
As the investigation continues, local authorities are working closely with national security teams to follow all leads and bring clarity to the troubling disappearance of Mwangi.
His family, community members, and local leaders are anxiously awaiting answers, while the security team focuses on resolving the matter efficiently and peacefully.
