Former Kisumu Town West MP Kenn Nyagudi is dead.
Nyagudi died on Sunday March 23 night while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, his family said.
He had been battling undisclosed illness. The family said they will issue further statement.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula led members in mourning the late former Kisumu Town West MP.
Wetangula sent his sympathies to the family and friends of Nyagudi, praying for comfort for his loved ones.
The late Nyagudi was first elected in 2004 following the demise of Joab Omino.
“I was privileged to have interacted with him when I was the Foreign Affairs Minister.
May his family be consoled and find comfort in the Lord’s arms. May his soul rest in peace,” Wetangula stated.
Nyagudi was elected in a 2004 by-election following the death of Joab Omino in January of the same year. He served the remainder of the term but lost the 2007 election to Olago Aluoch.
During his tenure, Kisumu Town West remained intact until the Interim Independent Boundaries Review Commission (IIBRC), led by Andrew Ligale, split it into Kisumu Central and Kisumu West constituencies.
In the 2013 elections, after the adoption of the new constitution, Nyagudi contested the Kisumu Central MP seat but lost to political newcomer Ken Obura.
Following his exit from politics, Nyagudi ventured into business and largely stayed out of the public eye.
Several other politicians and friends mourned him as a hard-working man who helped his constituents.
