And a 30-year-old fisherman was found dead after apparently drowning in Lake Victoria at Kamser Seka Beach in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
The deceased was identified as John Onyango Obuyah.
According to police, the incident was reported on Sunday evening by Rambira Location Chief Octaph Aluoch, prompting officers from Kendubay Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo North to visit the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Obuyah left his home at about 1 p.m. for a fishing expedition on the lake. His body was later discovered floating in the water at around 3 p.m. by fellow fishermen, who alerted local authorities.
Police processed and documented the scene before retrieving the body.
The body was taken to Gendia Adventist Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police treating the case as a suspected drowning pending the outcome of the post-mortem.
Elsewhere, a man was killed after violence broke out during an alleged arson attack on a sugarcane plantation in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Mariwa Village in Kabar East Sub-location.
According to police, a group of people allegedly set ablaze a sugarcane plantation belonging to a local. As villagers moved in to intervene, a confrontation ensued during which Obonyo Ndege, a resident of Olasi Village, was attacked and seriously injured.
The victim was rushed to Pivot Private Hospital in Masogo for treatment but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
The body was later moved to Ahero Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both the suspected arson and the fatal assault. The motive for the attack and the identities of those involved had not been established by the time of filing the report.
