Four Suspects Arrested as Police Seize Illicit Alcohol and Cannabis in Nairobi CBD Crackdown

The National Police Service (NPS) has arrested four suspects and seized large quantities of illicit alcohol and narcotic substances during a series of coordinated security operations conducted in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The raids, carried out on June 15, form part of an ongoing nationwide campaign targeting the production, distribution and sale of illegal brews, second-generation liquor and narcotics.

According to a statement issued by the NPS, officers first conducted an operation in the Meru Ndogo area at around 5:00 p.m., leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of substantial quantities of illicit alcohol.

“At approximately 17:00 hours, officers conducted a raid in the Meru Ndogo area, where they arrested one suspect and recovered two boxes of second-generation liquor and 270 litres of kangara,” the statement said.

In a separate operation later in the day, police acted on intelligence reports and raided a building along Old Kirinyaga Road, where three additional suspects were apprehended.

Police said all four suspects are currently being held in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

“All the suspects have been placed in police custody awaiting arraignment in court to face the relevant charges,” the service said.

The National Police Service commended officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public whose information contributed to the successful raids.

“The National Police Service commends the officers for their swift action and thanks members of the public for providing timely information,” the statement added.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations aimed at eliminating dangerous and unregulated substances from communities across the country.

“Enhanced operations will continue across the country to ensure public safety and eradicate the trade in dangerous, unregulated substances,” the NPS said.

The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report information related to the manufacture, sale or distribution of illicit brews and narcotics through the nearest police station or designated reporting channels.

Investigations into the recovered substances and the suspects’ possible links to wider criminal networks remain ongoing.
