Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that retired soldiers have volunteered to provide security for his homes and personal protection.
Speaking on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi show on Sunday, Gachagua revealed that his official security team has been withdrawn since the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County on November 16, 2024.
He explained that following his impeachment, he was initially assigned six officers four stationed at his home and two providing private security.
However, Gachagua now states that retired officers have stepped in to safeguard him, particularly amid concerns over alleged assassination attempts on his life.
“I’m being guarded by volunteers who are retired officers. Some were in KWS, others in KFS,” Gachagua said.
“When they saw what happened to me in Limuru, about 300 people from different places came looking for me and volunteered to guard my homes.
Above all, God is watching over us. He is the head of all security forces.”
Gachagua also alleged that an attack on his security team during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, on November 28 was a deliberate attempt to harm him.
Armed assailants disrupted the event and targeted Gachagua’s car with stones.
He believes the attack was part of an orchestrated plan to assassinate him, but he managed to escape unharmed.
“In Limuru, I had no security. It was God who protected me because the plan was to assassinate me,” Gachagua claimed.
“Young men came in, removed tent poles, and were looking for me. They were Kikuyus, saying ‘gutha mutwe’ (hit the head).
They attacked my car from all sides, but four young men laid on top of me, so no pole or stone hit me. One young man was injured and is currently hospitalized.”
The former Deputy President speculated that these attacks are politically motivated, linked to his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s government and his public engagements since being ousted from office.
He also hinted at making a major political announcement in 2025 to chart his next political course.
