Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has sparked debate online after publicly criticizing popular Kenyan content creator Kinuthia over his crossdressing content, arguing that it could have a negative influence on young boys.
Mosiria, who is known for his outspoken views on social issues and his active presence on social media, took issue with Kinuthia’s signature style of dressing in women’s outfits, wearing wigs and makeup, saying such content should not be easily accessible to children.

In a strongly-worded statement shared online, Mosiria accused the influencer of using content creation as a shield while promoting what he believes is harmful behavior to the younger generation.
“Kinuthia, you are a bad influence to the boy child and a total shame to the men community. Stop hiding behind the excuse of ‘content creation.’ Dressing like a woman, behaving like a woman, wearing makeup and wigs, and appearing in women’s clothes 24/7, then expecting people to keep quiet, is something many people will question.
What kind of content are you creating, especially at a time when the younger generation has easy access to phones and the internet? In my view, you are becoming a negative influence, particularly on the boy child.
If this is the type of content you choose to create, then it should be restricted to platforms intended for adult audiences rather than being widely accessible across mainstream digital spaces.
I call upon the relevant authorities to review this kind of content because I believe it raises ethical concerns and may negatively influence young people, especially the boy child.”
Mosiria’s remarks have reignited conversations around the responsibilities of digital creators and the type of content children are exposed to through social media.
With smartphones becoming increasingly common among young people, concerns over age-appropriate online content continue to dominate public discourse.
Kinuthia, one of Kenya’s most recognizable digital influencers, has built a massive following by producing comedy skits, fashion content, beauty videos and lifestyle posts.
His bold fashion choices, which often include feminine outfits, wigs and makeup, have become a defining feature of his online brand.
Over the years, Kinuthia has repeatedly maintained that his appearance is part of his entertainment persona and creative expression.
While he has won praise from many fans for his confidence and originality, he has also faced criticism from sections of the public who believe his content is controversial.
Mosiria’s comments have sharply divided Kenyans on social media. Some users backed the county official, saying influencers should be mindful of the impact their content has on children and teenagers.
Others defended Kinuthia, arguing that viewers have the freedom to choose what they watch and that parents also play a key role in monitoring children’s online activity.
The debate also highlights the broader conversation about online regulation in Kenya, balancing freedom of expression with concerns about child protection and age-appropriate content.
As digital platforms continue to shape popular culture, discussions about the responsibilities of creators, parents and regulators are likely to remain at the center of public debate.
As of the time of publication, Kinuthia had not publicly responded to Mosiria’s remarks.
