Government Announces Key Appointments And Reappointments Across Multiple State Agencies And Institutions


In a comprehensive series of gazette notices published on 23rd May 2025, the Government of Kenya unveiled a wide array of appointments, reappointments, and regulatory actions across various state corporations, public institutions, and statutory boards.

These moves, led by President William Samoei Ruto and executed by several Cabinet Secretaries, are part of a broader strategy to reinforce governance and operational efficiency within key public agencies.

President Ruto spearheaded several major appointments, signaling a renewed commitment to institutional leadership.

John Mwangi Karondo was appointed to the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a three-year term, replacing Joseph Kimani Machiri. Adan K. Mulata, a retired Lieutenant General, was named the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Service Council.

Additionally, former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja was appointed Chairperson of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.

These high-level nominations reflect the administration’s drive to position experienced and reform-minded individuals in strategic leadership roles.

A flurry of appointments also came from various ministries.

At the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe appointed new board members to several institutions, including the Agricultural Finance Corporation, Nyayo Tea Zones Development Authority, Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, Pest Control Products Board, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, and the Commodities Fund.

In a move to modernize sector regulations, the ministry also invited public feedback on the Draft Crops (Fibre Crops and Crop Fibres) Regulations, 2025.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi appointed Christopher Odhiambo Karani to the Kenya Pipeline Company Board and Dr. Charles O. Owino to the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation Board.

In the education sector, Julius Ogamba, Cabinet Secretary for Education, appointed Adan Abdi Hassan to the Council of the North Eastern National Polytechnic.

At the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, CS Hassan Ali Joho appointed Ruth Mumo Mulwa to the Geologists Registration Board, replacing Florence Tanui.

Further appointments include Simon Mwachia’s nomination to the Board of Kenya Shipyards Limited by Defence Cabinet Secretary Roselinda Soipan Tuya, and the designation of Meldah Abenyo Adung as an analyst under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The gazette also included a series of corrigenda to correct previously published errors, including amendments to names, appointment dates, and relevant appointing authorities.

Notable changes include the corrected names of Felesta Kairuthi Henry and BethPurity Makena Gitonga, and an updated tenure date for Jattani Kuse Godana.

In a significant development under the Power of Mercy Act, President Ruto granted clemency to thousands of inmates.

A total of 2,135 petty offenders with six-month sentences and 2,664 inmates with sentence balances of six months or less had their terms remitted.

Additionally, 30 individual clemency petitions were approved and detailed in Gazette Notice No. 6488, demonstrating the government’s ongoing effort to address prison congestion and extend rehabilitative justice.

These latest announcements underscore the government’s active pursuit of public sector reforms aimed at boosting transparency, institutional performance, and service delivery across the nation.
