Government Reshuffles Leadership Of Public University Councils Across Kenya

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has announced a comprehensive round of appointments and reappointments to the governing councils of public universities across the country.

The changes, outlined in Gazette Notices dated July 25, 2025, are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, accountability, and strategic leadership in Kenya’s higher education sector.

Among the most notable appointments is Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha, who has been named the Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Council, one of Kenya’s most prestigious academic institutions.

His appointment is accompanied by several new council members tasked with steering the university into a new era of academic excellence and institutional reform.

At Egerton University, Prof. James K. Sang has been appointed as Chairperson of the Council.

He will be joined by Mohamed Ahmed and Amos Okello, who will serve as new council members, bringing diverse expertise to the university’s leadership.

Dr. Idle Omar Farah has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Technical University of Kenya Council, signaling confidence in his ongoing leadership and ensuring continuity in the university’s strategic direction.
