Guards attacked and injured as gang rob 77 bags of coffee from factory in Chepseon, Kericho County

Two guards were attacked and seriously wounded during a robbery incident at a coffee factory in Chepseon, Kericho County.

Police said the gang stole 77 bags of coffee valued at Sh4 million from Kichawir Farmers’ Cooperative Society.

The gang also vandalized security cameras and the CPU with the data before escaping in the Monday November 17 incident.

The two guards on duty were found injured and tie in a store. They reported there were about seven men involved in the robbery.

They loaded the product to a waiting lorry before fleeing the scene. The police visited the scene and announced a probe is ongoing as the guards were admitted in a local hospital in stable condition.

Cases of stealing of coffee products have been on the rise in various parts of the country. This has prompted police to pay attention to the trend. The police said most of the past incidents remain unsolved and pledged to pursue them.

Meanwhile, a man was lynched in a failed robbery incident in Villa, Embakasi, Nairobi.

The man was accused of being a thief before he was attacked by a mob and killed. The body was picked up to the mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.

Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the past days amid efforts to address the menace.
