TikTok’s Repost feature allows users to share interesting videos with their followers. Similar to retweeting on X (formerly Twitter), it helps spread content to a wider audience. However, not everyone wants their reposts to be public. You may prefer to enjoy TikTok privately, without broadcasting what you’ve shared. If that’s the case, you might be wondering: Can I make my reposts on TikTok private?
When you repost a video on TikTok, it gets shared to your followers’ For You Page (FYP) feed. Unlike uploading a video yourself, reposts do not appear on your profile. Instead, they show up in the feeds of those who follow you. This means other users can see what you repost, unless you adjust your privacy settings.
Currently, TikTok does not have a direct “Make repost private” button. However, there are several ways to control who sees your reposts or to avoid drawing unwanted attention.
Option 1: Remove a Repost
If you’ve already reposted something and don’t want it to remain public:
- Go to the video you reposted.
- Tap the Share arrow (the curved arrow on the right).
- Select “Remove repost.”
The video will no longer appear as your repost, and your followers won’t see it.
Option 2: Limit Your Audience
TikTok’s privacy settings allow you to limit who sees your overall activity. To do this:
- Open TikTok and go to your Profile.
- Tap the three-line menu in the top right.
- Select Settings and privacy.
- Go to Privacy.
- Turn on Private account.
With a private account, only approved followers will see your reposts, giving you greater control.
Option 3: Hide Your Activity
If you don’t want people to see your repost activity at all:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Interactions.
- Adjust options such as who can see your liked videos and who can view your following list.
While this doesn’t specifically hide reposts, it reduces how much of your activity is visible to others.
Option 4: Avoid Using the Repost Feature
If privacy is a top priority, the simplest way to ensure your reposts remain private is to avoid using the repost button. Instead, save videos to your Favorites or download them (where allowed) for personal use.
Option 5: Use “Only Me” for Your Own Posts
For your own TikTok videos, you can select “Only me” under Who can watch this video. While this doesn’t apply to reposts, it’s useful if you want to enjoy TikTok without sharing much publicly.
