Police in Makueni County are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 49-year-old woman whose human leg was recovered in Kathukuni Village, Kasikeu, weeks after she was reported missing.
The body part, believed to belong to Ann Mulwa, was discovered on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Police visited the scene after being alerted that human remains had been spotted in the area.
The officers recovered one human leg, while other parts of the body were believed to have been eaten by wild animals.
The leg was positively identified by Mulwa’s brother-in-law, who recognised the clothes the deceased had been wearing.
Mulwa, who was reported to have been of unsound mind, had been reported missing on August 3, 2026, at Kasikeu Police Post.
The recovered body part was taken to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death.
And police in Siaya County have launched investigations into the killing of a man who was allegedly assaulted by a group of people searching for his employee over a Sh20,000 theft.
Francis Omondi Odera died while undergoing treatment at Siaya Referral Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries during the assault on Sunday evening.
Four people went to Odera’s home in Nyamasare Village at about 7pm on August 30, 2026.
The group told a woman at the home that they were looking for Wycliffe, an employee of Odera, whom they accused of stealing Sh20,000 from a local.
They did not find Wycliffe at the home but instead took Odera to a gold-crushing site in Nyamasare, where a confrontation reportedly broke out at the entrance.
The group allegedly assaulted Odera, inflicting serious injuries to his head.
The assailants later rushed him to Siaya Referral Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations established that a man had allegedly sent a woman to look for loose money and gave her Sh20,000.
While riding a motorcycle, the woman reportedly gave Wycliffe a lift. She allegedly noticed the money in her jacket and stole it.
Police said Wycliffe was an employee of the deceased, prompting the suspects to confront Odera while demanding to know his whereabouts.
The suspects allegedly assaulted him in the process, causing injuries that led to his death.
Police officers visited and processed the scene, while efforts to trace the suspects at their homes were unsuccessful.
The deceased’s body was moved to Siaya Referral Mortuary, where it was awaiting a postmortem examination as investigations continued.
