IEBC resumes continuous voter registration in selected constituencies ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in selected constituencies across the country as preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather pace.

The exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the commission, the resumption applies to constituencies where CVR had earlier been suspended to allow for the conduct of by-elections held on November 27, 2025.

Areas affected include Magarini, Galole and Fafi at the Coast, as well as Machakos Town, Turkana North and West, Samburu North, Moiben and Keiyo.

Other constituencies set to benefit from the exercise are Ugunja, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo Central, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango, Borabu and Embakasi North.

IEBC said the move is aimed at giving eligible Kenyans who missed earlier registration opportunities a chance to enroll as voters or update their personal details in readiness for the 2027 elections.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to verify that their voter information is accurate and up to date.

Continuous Voter Registration is a core component of Kenya’s electoral process, allowing citizens who attain voting age, change residence or wish to update their details to do so on a rolling basis.

The commission explained that CVR was temporarily suspended in the affected constituencies during the November by-elections to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and prevent manipulation of voter data.

Eligible voters can register or update their details at designated constituency registration centres using their national identity cards.

The exercise will run from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm.

The IEBC has also encouraged Kenyans to confirm their registration status online or at local offices to avoid last-minute challenges as the 2027 polls approach.

The commission emphasized that timely participation in CVR is crucial to ensuring all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote.

However, the commission noted that Continuous Voter Registration and routine revision of the voters’ roll will remain suspended in Mbeere North and Malava constituencies due to ongoing election petitions.

In Mbeere North, the suspension follows a High Court petition challenging the election of MP Leo Wamuthende.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed Justice Richard Mwongo to hear the case at the Embu High Court.

The petition stems from a closely contested by-election held on November 27 last year, which pitted the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) against the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

President William Ruto’s UDA party is facing a legal challenge after two voters filed a petition disputing the victory of its candidate, Leo Wa Muthende, in the Mbeere North by-election.
