KeNHA announces temporary traffic disruption on Mombasa Road this Sunday

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Mombasa Road (A8) between the Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and the Museum Hill Interchange on Sunday, November 30.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, November 25, KeNHA Acting Director General Luka Kimeli stated that the affected section of the highway will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to facilitate a 21-kilometre half-marathon being held in commemoration of World AIDS Day.

Motorists have been urged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be stationed along the route to guide road users throughout the event.

“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) between Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and Museum Hill Interchange will experience traffic disruption on Sunday, November 30,” Kimeli said.

“This is to allow for the 21-kilometre Half Marathon in honour of the World AIDS Day 2025 event. Motorists are advised to comply with the traffic management plan and heed instructions from officers and marshals on site.”

Observed every December 1, World AIDS Day serves to remember those who have died from the virus, raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, and highlight progress made in prevention, treatment, and support. It also unites communities globally in support of people living with HIV and their families.

This year’s marathon, themed “One Race, One Goal: Ending AIDS among Adolescents and Young People,” underscores Kenya’s commitment to eliminating AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

In addition to the main half-marathon, the event will feature several race categories, including a family fun run, a children’s race, a wheelchair race, a corporate race, and a CEOs’ race.

Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga encouraged interested participants to register online through the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) website.

“The event, themed ‘One Race; One Goal,’ is significant in our ongoing efforts to end AIDS-related deaths by 2030, reduce new infections especially among young people aged 15 to 24 improve adherence and viral suppression, and address social issues such as teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence,” Oluga said.
