A Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court Tuesday sentenced a former Kenyatta University official, Dunston Indimuli Okello, to 14 years in prison or a fine of Sh4,922,000 after convicting him of abuse of office and money laundering.
This is in connection with a fraudulent payment for undelivered wheat flour worth Sh288,000.
Chief Magistrate Eunice Nyutu delivered the ruling, finding Okello guilty of both charges.
For abuse of office, he was fined Sh900,000 or serve a term of seven years in prison, with an additional mandatory fine of Sh1,022,000.
On the money laundering charge, he received a Sh3,000,000 fine or serve a seven-year jail term.
The prosecution led by Celestine Oluoch and Linda Otieno proved that between 20th August 20 and 30 September 2019, Dunston Indimuli Okello, while serving as the in-charge of Central Food Stores at Kenyatta University, improperly certified the delivery of 200 bales of wheat flour worth Sh288,000, which were not delivered, by signing Verification Certificate Serial Number 56888 for Metnetwork Solutions.
The prosecution called 13 witnesses to substantiate the case, ultimately securing the accused’s conviction.
