Kenyatta University Students Block Thika Road In Protest Over HELB Delays

Students from Kenyatta University have taken to the streets, blocking a section of Thika Road in a protest against delays in the disbursement of funds by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

The demonstration has caused significant traffic disruptions, with commuters facing long delays.

This protest marks the second time in less than a week that students have staged a demonstration, the first being over power outages affecting Kenyatta Market.

Frustrated by the continued delays, some of the students have vowed to march to Anniversary Towers, the headquarters of HELB, to demand immediate action and explanations.

In solidarity, students from Egerton University have also issued a stern 12-hour ultimatum, calling on HELB to release the overdue funds or face further protests.

The delays in the disbursement of HELB funds have left many students grappling with financial constraints, particularly under the new University Funding Model, which has yet to fully address their needs.
