Cardiac surgeries under the KNH-KIBOS Mission have officially begun at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), with specialists from Kenya and abroad working together to treat patients requiring heart procedures.
The medical mission is targeting 10 cardiac surgeries, with the first two procedures now underway at the Nairobi-based hospital.
The multidisciplinary surgical team brings together cardiac specialists from Japan, the United States, Sweden, Canada and KNH, combining expertise and advanced medical technology to perform the operations.
“Two hearts, eight more to go,” KNH said as the mission got underway, signalling the start of the planned procedures.
Each surgery is expected to take approximately two and a half hours, with the medical team working to ensure the procedures are carried out safely and efficiently.
“The surgical team is already in action, working towards giving these patients a new lease on life,” KNH said.
The mission brings together international and local specialists as part of efforts to expand access to specialised cardiac care and strengthen Kenya’s capacity to manage complex heart conditions.
The remaining eight surgeries are expected to be conducted as the medical mission continues at KNH.
