Media personality and Kisumu senatorial hopeful Willis Raburu gave supporters a scare after he was hit by a car while accompanying the Linda Mwananchi campaign convoy on Sunday, July 26.
Despite sustaining minor injuries, the former television journalist quickly brushed off the incident and continued with the journey, insisting that nothing would stop the movement.
Raburu was travelling with the Linda Mwananchi team en route to Bungoma for a major homecoming rally hosted by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, one of the movement’s leading figures.
During the journey, Raburu was reportedly left behind by the main convoy and was riding on a motorcycle in an attempt to catch up when a car struck him, causing him to fall.
In a selfie video recorded moments after the accident, Raburu remained upbeat despite visible bruises and dust on his body.
“I was left behind by campaign cars. I am on a motorbike… I was hit by a car and fell. We are chasing the convoy. I suffered slight injuries, nothing much. Those are the rules of war,” he said.
Photos and videos shared online showed scratches on his thighs and bruises on one of his hands. Nevertheless, Raburu declined to let the incident derail his schedule and soon rejoined the convoy heading to Bungoma.
Later, the media personality reassured his followers through social media, describing the accident as one of the challenges that come with life on the campaign trail.
“Campaign trails can be intense! But I’m okay. I fell and got some bruises, but nothing can stop a movement whose time has come. We caught up with the caravan and kept moving,” he wrote.
Raburu, who recently declared his interest in the Kisumu Senate seat ahead of the 2027 General Election, has become one of the prominent faces supporting the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The campaign, spearheaded by Sifuna and other opposition leaders, has been traversing different parts of the country while drawing large crowds.
However, Sunday’s rally was not without further drama. Earlier in the day, another vehicle linked to the Linda Mwananchi convoy reportedly overturned along the Sibanga–Kitale Highway, leaving several supporters and a Bungoma senatorial aspirant injured.
The accident renewed concerns over safety during political processions, especially after images emerged showing some supporters hanging on the sides of moving vehicles.
Political campaigns in Kenya have historically been accompanied by hectic road travel, long convoys and massive crowds, with road accidents occasionally interrupting campaign activities.
Safety experts have repeatedly urged organizers and supporters to observe traffic rules to minimize risks during such events.
Fortunately for Raburu, the injuries were not serious, allowing him to continue participating in the Bungoma rally as scheduled.
His determination to carry on despite the accident earned praise from some supporters online, while others wished him a quick recovery and called for greater caution during political campaigns.
