A 32-year-old man, identified as Nobert Matara, has been taken into custody following the discovery of a woman’s remains in his car in the United States on Friday evening.
The victim, 31-year-old Tracy Nyariki, who lived in Newark, Delaware, was reported missing in Bear, New Castle County.
Concerns arose when Nyariki’s employer filed a missing person report after she failed to show up for work over several days.
Authorities subsequently issued a Gold Alert to assist in locating her.
The Gold Alert Program is utilized in the U.S. to mobilize resources and support for finding individuals who are missing, with the decision to activate this alert typically made by local law enforcement agencies.
At the time of searching Nyariki’s residence at the Village of Kent Apartments in Bear, police found circumstances that raised suspicions regarding her safety.
Investigators designated Matara as a “person of interest” in connection with her disappearance. Details from the Aberdeen Police Department indicate that on Saturday, December 21, 2024, officers from their department were called by New Castle County Police to assist in locating Nyariki and a suspected male who posed a potential threat.
Matara’s vehicle was located in Aberdeen, Maryland, where he was found nearby.
Upon investigation, officers discovered dismembered human remains within the vehicle, leading to Matara’s arrest later that evening.
Currently held in Maryland, Matara awaits extradition to Delaware, where he is facing first-degree murder charges.
Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
The relationship between Nyariki and Matara remains unclear, though it is suspected they were acquaintances.
