A 56-year-old man died in Bungoma County after allegedly being assaulted by his brother during a family dispute, triggering a retaliatory arson attack on the suspect’s house.
Gabriel Simiyu Makokha died at on Thursday from injuries he allegedly sustained during the assault on August 20 at Chenjeni Village in Mukuyuni Ward.
Police who visited the scene established that a family disagreement had erupted between the two brothers, during which the suspect, allegedly attacked Makokha using a piece of wood and a metal rod.
The assault was not reported to police at the time.
Following Makokha’s death, irate members of the public allegedly set fire to a two-roomed semi-permanent house belonging to the suspect at about 11am on Thursday. The value of property destroyed in the fire was yet to be established.
The deceased’s body was being preserved at Chebukaka Mission Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Police said the body had one visible wound on the face.
Investigators processed both the alleged assault and arson scenes as efforts continued to arrest the suspect.
Two items believed to have been used as weapons in the attack were recovered at the Sichei area assistant chief’s office after family members took them there.
Police are investigating both the death of Gabriel and the subsequent destruction of the suspect’s property.
And police in Kilifi South launched investigations after the body of a boy aged between 12 and 16 was found half-buried in a heap of construction sand along a roadside in Majengo area.
The body was discovered near Coca-Cola Coast Bottlers after the Kijipwa Location chief received information from members of the public and alerted police.
A team of police officers visited the site and found the lifeless body buried from the head to the waistline inside a heap of construction sand.
The boy was wearing school uniform shorts, but police were yet to establish his identity or the school to which the uniform belonged.
The circumstances surrounding his death and the motive for the suspected killing remain unknown.
Scene-of-crime officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as detectives work to identify the boy and determine how he died and ended up buried in the sand.
