Man dies after assault outside Siaya nightclub

Police in Ugenya Sub-county, Siaya County, are investigating a suspected murder after a young man died following an alleged assault outside a nightclub.

According to the police, the incident was reported on April 7, 2026

The police were informed that on the night of April 4, 2026, the deceased, Brian Odhiambo, had gone to Club Lidega for a night out.

However, upon arrival, he and a brother realized they did not have enough money to pay the entrance fee and remained outside the club.

While there, they were allegedly attacked by a group of unknown assailants, forcing them to flee in different directions. The two later reunited at home, both injured.

Despite their injuries, the brothers did not seek medical attention or report the incident to police. Instead, they opted to self-medicate using painkillers and anti-malarial drugs.

On April 6, Odhiambo’s condition deteriorated, prompting his family to take him to Ambira Sub-County Hospital. He was later referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary where they were identified pending an autopsy.

Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible arraignment. Dozens of suspects have in the past months been lynched in a worrying trend, police say.
