Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed on Saturday night when a fire swept through several homes in Nairobi’s Tassia Estate, located in Embakasi East.
The blaze broke out near the Tassia SDA Church, leaving many residents without shelter and forcing them to spend the night in the cold.
At least six people, including a child, were injured as they were rescued from the burning buildings.
Images and videos shared showed emergency vehicles navigating through the estate’s roads as onlookers filmed the unfolding situation from their balconies.
The victims were quickly rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi for medical treatment.

Firefighters from the Nairobi County Government, along with local residents, managed to contain the fire before it could spread further.
However, residents voiced concerns over the delayed response from emergency responders, citing the growing number of recent fires in the area.
Embakasi Member of Parliament Babu Owino confirmed the incident in a video shared on his social media, calling for prayers for the victims.
“Pray for us as fire is currently razing down houses at Tassia, Embakasi East.
Property worth millions was destroyed, and children, men, and women were left homeless, forced to spend the night in the cold. What a sad night in Embakasi East,” Babu said.
As of the time of publishing, authorities had not yet provided any updates on the cause of the fire.
This latest incident comes just months after a similar tragedy in August 2023, when a fire in the same estate left over 200 people homeless.
Victims of the recent blaze have speculated that a gas cylinder explosion may have been the cause of the fire.
