The estimated Mr. T net worth is $1 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Starring in films and television shows, commercial appearances and his former successful professional wrestling career make up for most of his financial income.

At the height of The A-Team television show, which he starred in, he reportedly earned about $80,000 per week. He  also reportedly earned as much as $5 million a year during his peak in the commercial advertising scene.

His wealth has also been supported by merchandising and licensing opportunities associated with the Mr. T brand, including products such as the Mr. T Flavorwave Oven, while his recognizable image has been used in video games, advertising and other commercial projects. His trademark gold jewelry was itself valuable. An appraiser cited by Bloomberg estimated it was worth $43,000 in 1983.

Despite Mr. T’s financial success throughout the years, he faced financial difficulties along the way leading to his current estimated net worth.

After leaving the military, he unsuccessfully tried out for the Green Bay Packers, with a knee injury preventing him from making the NFL team.

He later worked as a bouncer at Chicago’s Dingbats Discotheque, where he developed the distinctive Mr. T persona and became known for wearing gold chains and jewelry that customers had lost or abandoned at the club.

His reputation for handling difficult situations helped him transition into nearly a decade of work as a professional bodyguard. His high-profile clients reportedly included celebrities such as Steve McQueen, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and LeVar Burton, as well as boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Leon Spinks.

During his late 20s, he also won two televised tough-man competitions.

Film and television

His breakthrough in entertainment came in 1980 when Sylvester Stallone noticed him during the “America’s Toughest Bouncer” competition. Stallone cast him as Clubber Lang in “Rocky III”, a role that transformed Mr. T into a household name and produced his famous “I pity the fool” catchphrase.

He followed that success with appearances in “Penitentiary 2” and other television productions before landing his most recognizable role as Sergeant Bosco “B. A.” Baracus on The A-Team. The series became a major television hit, while B. A. Baracus developed into a cult character and one of Mr. T’s defining performances.

His career later included television appearances, hosting, voice acting and projects such as World’s Craziest Fools. He voiced Officer Earl Devereaux in the 2009 animated film “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and continued making entertainment appearances.

Wrestling

Professional wrestling also became part of his legacy. Mr. T teamed with Hulk Hogan at the first WrestleMania in 1985 and won their match against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. He later competed at WrestleMania 2 and made appearances for WCW.

His contributions to wrestling were eventually recognized when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity wing in 2014.

In addition to his acting and television earnings, he has appeared in numerous advertising campaigns for major companies and products, including Snickers, Atari, World of Warcraft, MCI, Comcast, RadioShack and Fuze Iced Tea.

Forbes described him as one of the industry’s enduring pitchmen, and Mr. T has said that he considers himself more of a “pitchman” than a traditional actor.
