Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has launched a blistering attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga following his removal from the National Assembly Committee on Regional Integration.
The lawmaker took to social media on Thursday, expressing frustration over the reshuffles, which he believes were orchestrated by the former Prime Minister.
“I was removed from the Committee on Regional Integration and reassigned to the Broadcasting and Library Services, only to be sent back to welfare and food in the cafeteria.
Raila claims he is consulting, but he’s just a selfish man,” Salasya wrote.
He continued by addressing Raila directly, saying, “We want to tell Raila that the days of creating tension and leaving people guessing about your political moves are over. There’s no plan; we know you.”
Reflecting on his early days in the Azimio la Umoja coalition, Salasya expressed disillusionment, stating that it had become clear that Raila’s only objective was to secure a seat at the table by pursuing talks with President William Ruto.
He also accused his fellow MPs of allowing the legislature to lose its independence, now operating under the control of the executive.
Despite being removed from a high-profile committee, Salasya vowed that this would not deter him from advocating for his constituents.
“For those MPs who think removing us from committees will stop us from delivering development, it won’t happen. I am a good planner,” he declared.
“With the available CDF and proper management, we will still emerge among the top performers in this country.”
The outspoken MP concluded his remarks by calling for constitutional reforms to ensure that committee selections are based on merit, without political interference.
Salasya’s demotion came as part of a wider reshuffle, which saw several MPs, particularly those aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, removed from influential positions.
Among them were Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who was demoted from Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was removed as Chair of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee.
Other MPs affected included Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo.
