Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi, through his legal representation from Malimo and Njoroge law firm, has threatened to sue Morara Kebaso, leader of the Inclusion of National Justice, Economic, and Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party, over defamatory remarks made on social media.
In a demand letter issued on Sunday, December 29, Sudi’s legal team accused Kebaso of making “malicious and reckless” statements that defamed the MP’s character.
The letter, which was shared widely on social media, specifically pointed to a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated December 22, 2024.
The firm outlined that Kebaso’s remarks had falsely implicated Sudi in a criminal act and damaged his reputation.
The controversy began when Kebaso posted a series of images, including one of Sudi with artist Kasmuel McOure, accompanied by text that suggested Sudi was involved in the tragic deaths of Gen Z protesters during the anti-finance bill demonstrations.
The post quickly gained traction due to Kebaso’s large online following, sparking public outrage and further allegations.
The demand letter, dated December 28, 2024, outlined the following key grievances:
- Defamation by Direct Reference and Innuendo: Kebaso’s post allegedly painted Sudi as a murderer, profiteer, and corrupt individual, with the implication of his involvement in a criminal conspiracy.
- Particulars of Malice: The letter accused Kebaso of publishing the defamatory statements without verifying the facts and with full knowledge of the damage they could cause to Sudi’s public image.
The firm noted that the use of Sudi’s photographs appeared intentional, aimed at inciting hatred.
The law firm has made three demands of Kebaso:
- A written, unconditional apology for the defamatory remarks.
- A public admission of liability.
- A commitment not to publish any further defamatory statements about Sudi.
Kebaso has been given a strict deadline of three days to respond or face legal action, with the law firm warning that he would be held responsible for any costs or consequences resulting from his failure to comply.
The dispute between Sudi and Kebaso has played out publicly on X, where Sudi has accused Kebaso of soliciting funds from his followers for personal gain.
