Police in Kijabe are actively pursuing three robbery suspects who ambushed a motorist at a bridge along Old Kijabe Road late last night, robbing him of Sh 70,000, a Samsung Galaxy S22, and several credit cards.
The armed gang, wielding machetes and a metal pipe, had used a log to block the bridge, forcing the motorist to stop and step out of his vehicle around 11 PM.
As the motorist attempted to clear the obstruction, the suspects accosted him, issuing death threats and demanding his valuables.
The victim complied, handing over his belongings and revealing his Mpesa PIN, which the robbers used to transfer Sh 70,000.
The robbery was interrupted when another vehicle approached from a distance, distracting the assailants.
Seizing the moment, the victim managed to escape and sought refuge at the nearby Rift Valley Academy.
Security personnel at the institution promptly contacted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kijabe Police Station, who responded swiftly, assisted the victim in recovering his car, and escorted him safely home.
Despite immediate efforts by police to comb through nearby thickets, the suspects evaded capture.
Detectives from Lari sub-county have now taken over the investigation and are pursuing all possible leads to bring the violent robbers to justice.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid in the arrest of the suspects.
