Police intensify security operations in Northern grazing zones

Police have stepped up security efforts in the northern grazing zone following rising concerns over instability, with senior officers holding high-level talks with local leadership to restore order and enhance coordination.

Officers from the National Police Service, led by National Police College–Kiganjio Commandant Nyale Munga, met with Governor Mutuma in a strategic engagement aimed at addressing persistent security challenges in the region, including banditry and resource-based conflicts.

Speaking after the meeting, Governor Mutuma welcomed the renewed focus on the area, noting that stronger collaboration between security agencies and local authorities would be key to lasting peace.

“We are committed to working closely with our security teams to ensure stability in the northern grazing zone. The safety of our people and their livelihoods remains our top priority,” said the governor.

He further revealed plans to establish a Police Training College in the region, describing the move as a long-term solution to bolster security presence and support economic growth.

The proposed training college will not only enhance security operations but also open up opportunities for development, job creation, and improved livelihoods for our residents,” he added.

Commandant Nyale Munga emphasized the importance of coordinated operations and community involvement in tackling insecurity, noting that police would intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations.

“Effective policing requires strong partnerships with local leaders and communities. We are strengthening our strategies to ensure the region remains secure and stable,” he said.

The meeting comes amid ongoing government efforts to address insecurity in pastoral regions, where conflicts over grazing land and water resources have often disrupted peace.

Authorities expressed optimism that the combined approach—enhanced security deployment, institutional development, and community engagement—will bring sustainable stability to the northern grazing zone.
