Police in Kilifi County are investigating a suspected grave site discovered in Mitulani Village, Chonyi Sub-County, as the search for an 80-year-old woman reported missing last month intensifies.
The suspected site was discovered on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by a relative of the missing woman, identified as Zippora Willmote.
The relative reportedly encountered the suspicious area while walking through a farm towards the missing woman’s home. He noticed a section covered with dry leaves and branches and, after stepping on it, began sinking into the ground.
He moved away and examined the area more closely, where he allegedly spotted two jembes hidden separately in a nearby bush.
Police visited the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigations.
Police said further action at the site was pending direction from their superiors.
The development comes as police continue efforts to establish the whereabouts of Willmote, a resident of Mitulani Village, whose disappearance was previously reported.
Investigators are expected to examine the suspected site and determine whether it is connected to the missing-person case.
And police in Migori County have launched investigations into the death of a man who allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault at his rented house in Ikerege, Kuria West Sub-County.
Issack Kerongo Okari died on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Bosongo Hospital in Kisii, where he had been receiving treatment after his condition deteriorated.
According to police, the matter was reported at Kehancha Police Station on Sunday, August 23, at after the deceased’s brother, received information that Okari was critically ill and had been admitted to Bosongo Hospital.
The alleged assault was reportedly linked to a dispute over what was described as inappropriate and frequent use of a latrine.
He was initially taken to Lifecare Ikerege before being referred to BNM Isebania. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Lifecare Migori and later referred to Bosongo Hospital in Kisii for specialised treatment.
Despite receiving treatment at Bosongo Hospital, Okari succumbed to his injuries on August 22.
His body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending further investigations and a postmortem examination.
