Police in Kisumu have freed 78 teenagers who were arrested at a house party in the Mountain View Estate.
The group, consisting of 68 boys and 10 girls, were all minors under 18 years old.
According to Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander Peter Mulai, the teens were discovered with illegal substances, including bhang, cigarettes, and khat, during the raid.
The police operation, which followed a tip-off, targeted the party where almost 100 youths were present, although some managed to flee before authorities arrived.
The 78 teenagers were taken to Obunga Police Station for questioning and later released into the custody of their parents.
Mulai confirmed that five teens, who had stayed in police custody, were collected by their relatives this morning.
Investigations are ongoing, with the police contacting the homeowner, who is also the father of one of the arrested teenagers.
The homeowner denied knowledge of the party, explaining he had been away at the time.
In light of the incident, Mulai urged parents to be extra vigilant and monitor their children’s activities during the holiday season.
He warned that law enforcement will continue to crack down on illegal parties and gatherings.
