President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Housing to begin the construction of a new student housing block at a college in Mandera County, with the aim of accommodating 500 students.
He emphasized that the block should be completed before the end of this year, ensuring that students arriving next year will have comfortable learning facilities.
Speaking in Mandera County, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to providing educational opportunities for every child in Kenya.
“In the last two years, we have hired 76,000 teachers to ensure that Kenyan children have access to quality education,” Ruto said, highlighting the progress made in addressing the teacher shortage.

In Mandera County specifically, Ruto revealed that 900 teachers have been hired in the past two years, the largest number since the country’s independence.
Looking ahead, he promised that next year, the government would implement affirmative action to recruit more teachers from Mandera County, ensuring local children have greater access to education.
The president also called on Mandera farmers to encourage their children to pursue teaching careers.
“By becoming teachers, you will help your community and shape the future of our nation,” he said. “It is a noble responsibility, and I congratulate you for taking it up.”

President Ruto also emphasized that Northern Kenya, like any other part of the country, deserves the same level of development and opportunities.
He expressed his desire to support the region in enhancing its education system and infrastructure, ensuring that it thrives alongside the rest of Kenya.
