President William Ruto recently embarked on an inspection tour of the Nasewa Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) and the Busia County Aggregation & Industrial Park (CAIPS), both integral components of the government’s ambitious plan to boost economic growth and create employment opportunities for Kenyans.
These developments are central to the administration’s focus on industrialization and value-added manufacturing, and are expected to transform Kenya’s economic landscape.
The first phase of the EPZA project, set to create 5,000 jobs, includes the construction of warehouses covering a total area of 11,250 square meters, along with associated civil works, such as roads and utilities, and the establishment of office blocks.
This phase is a significant step toward the establishment of a full-scale industrial zone, which, when completed, will span 843 acres and is projected to generate between 50,000 and 250,000 jobs, positioning the zone as a major economic driver for the region.
In addition to job creation, these projects are part of the government’s broader strategy to attract both local and international investors.

By focusing on the development of manufacturing and industrial capacity, particularly in agro-processing, the administration aims to tap into Kenya’s vast agricultural potential.
This will not only create sustainable employment but also promote the country’s export sector, particularly in processed agricultural goods, while contributing to the diversification of the economy.
President Ruto underscored the significance of these developments during his tour, highlighting that the Nasewa EPZA and the CAIPS would serve as critical hubs for innovation, industrial activity, and economic growth in the region.
He noted that these projects will provide a boost to local economies, particularly in Busia County, where the EPZA alone is expected to generate more than 50,000 jobs, positively impacting the livelihoods of thousands of residents.

The EPZA is expected to serve as a model for similar industrial parks across the country, stimulating economic activity and promoting regional development.
The President also emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, improving access to markets, and fostering an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
With the focus on industrialization, President Ruto believes Kenya can leverage its agricultural strengths and move towards becoming a global player in agro-processing, which will increase the value of exports, create new economic opportunities, and ultimately drive sustainable development across the country.
