Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi has addressed the dissolution of the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party, following a gazette notice issued by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
The Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, announced the dissolution in a gazette notice dated March 7, 2025, confirming that the decision was made voluntarily after the ANC’s Special National Delegates Congress held on February 7, 2025. The notice stated:
“Under sections 9 and 34C of the Political Parties Act, Cap 7D, and Paragraph 22 of the Second Schedule to the Political Parties Act, it is notified for the information of the general public that ANC, at its Special National Delegates Congress on Friday, February 7, 2025, resolved to voluntarily dissolve in line with the ANC Party constitution. Amani National Congress (ANC) stands dissolved.”
In response, PCS Mudavadi expressed that the merger of ANC with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) had strengthened his position and reaffirmed the validity of the pre-2022 General Election agreement, which remains in effect until 2027.
Mudavadi issued a statement confirming that Kenya Kwanza, the coalition formed between UDA and other parties, remains united and committed to its original mandate.
He dismissed any speculation regarding potential shifts in the political landscape and emphasized the coalition’s dedication to fulfilling its promises to the Kenyan people.
“Kenya Kwanza remains intact, strong, and fully committed to delivering on its promises to the people of Kenya.
We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders who facilitated this transition, especially the supporters of the former ANC party.
This milestone would not have been possible without your unwavering trust and commitment,” Mudavadi’s statement read in part.
Looking ahead, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of unity, efficiency, and a shared vision as Kenya Kwanza moves forward.
The leadership has reaffirmed its focus on maintaining internal cohesion and political stability as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.
Although ANC leaders had previously downplayed rumors of dissolution and a merger with UDA, stating that the party would remain firm in its objectives, ANC leader Timamy and UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire later announced that the two parties would indeed merge.
