President William Ruto kicked off a packed four-day development tour of Kisii County and Nyamira County, signaling an intensified push on infrastructure, education, and economic projects in the region.
The visit began Sunday with the groundbreaking for the expansion and upgrading of Kisii Stadium, a key facility expected to boost local sports and talent development.
The President is also scheduled to attend a football match featuring Shabana Football Club before handing over a team bus—an effort likely to energize the club’s strong grassroots following.
Beyond sports, the tour is heavily focused on development. Among the flagship projects is the long-awaited construction of Suneka Airstrip, which is expected to improve regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity.
The President will also inspect the Kisii Cancer Centre, highlighting ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure.
Road development forms a major part of the itinerary, with multiple projects either being launched or inspected across constituencies.
These include key links such as Bobaracho–Manyasi–Tinga, Keumbu–Ibeno, and Sameta–Egetuki roads, alongside several others in South Mugirango aimed at improving transport and trade.
Market infrastructure is also in focus, with foundation stones to be laid for projects like Ikonge Modern Market and Mogongo Modern Market, as well as commissioning and inspection of ongoing market works in Kegogi, Nyakoe, and Masi.
In education, the President’s schedule includes launching or supporting institutions such as the Kenya Medical Training College campuses in Nyamira and Nyangweta, alongside new facilities at Kisii University and Kisii National Polytechnic.
Student accommodation projects are also set to be rolled out to ease housing shortages.
Additional initiatives include water and electricity connectivity projects like the Nyamira and Kisii water supply programs and last-mile electricity connections, as well as the construction of Omingo Bridge and the Nyachenge Affordable Housing Project.
Politically, the visit also includes high-level consultative meetings at Kisii State Lodge with governors, MPs, MCAs, religious leaders, and boda boda representatives—underscoring both the development and engagement aspects of the tour.
Overall, the trip reflects a broad-based development agenda targeting transport, health, education, housing, and local commerce in the Gusii region.
