Three killed in accident in Voi on Nairobi-Mombasa highway


Three people were Monday night killed in a road crash involving two lorries in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The victims were a driver of a lorry and his two passengers.

Police said the accident happened in the Ndii area after a lorry rammed onto another one that was in front of it.

Both vehicles were moving in the same direction, police said.

A Mercedes Benz lorry rammed onto an FH one killing the driver and his two passengers after the driver lost its control. The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Police said nine people died in separate accidents in the country on Monday and the victims included four passengers, three pedestrians, a driver and rider.

Some 24 people were injured in the accidents and they included nine passengers, four riders, five pillion passengers and four pedestrians, police said.

And police in Tigoni, Limuru, Kiambu County are investigating an incident where three suspects escaped from custody.

The suspects broke out of Tigoni police cells on December 28, 2025.

This happened as the cells were being cleaned.

According to the police, one male escapee namely Joseph Njuguna, violently confronted and pushed a female police officer to the ground.

The prisoners proceeded to jump over the report office counter metal bar grills leading to a wall that exits to the open space to the gate and escaped towards the thick surrounding tea plantations.

However, the officer raised an alarm and police officers responded aided by a police dog nicknamed Rao managed to rearrest one suspect who was held on custodial orders at Limuru Law Court.

As a result of the incident, two male remandees held under custodial orders and one male suspect managed to escape. They were identified as Oscar Wanyonyi Wamalwa who is a suspect of robbery with violence and rape, Moses Karanja Ndungu who was suspect of murder and Joseph Njuguna a suspect of stealing.
