Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya involved in road accident, nursing broken leg

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is counting his blessings after surviving a grisly road accident during the Christmas festivities.

Details of the accident are still scant, but members of Natembeya’s inner circle have revealed that he suffered a broken leg.

Nairobi News has learned that Natembeya is currently recuperating following the accident.

News of the accident was first made public by Trans Nzoia County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Pius Gumo.

Gumo disclosed this during the memorial service of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo in Kitale, where he had been sent to represent the Trans Nzoia governor.

Pius said the governor sustained severe injuries to one of his legs, leaving him temporarily immobile.

However, Gumo did not share further details on the nature of the accident or how it occurred.

“I have brought a condolence message from Governor George Natembeya. He was involved in an accident during Christmas and broke his leg; that is why he could not be here. He would have loved to be present to console the family. On his behalf, I convey his condolences and recognise Jirongo as a leader who championed the interests of ordinary citizens, and one we should all emulate,” he said.

It should be noted that Natembeya has been largely absent from public appearances in recent weeks.

With the latest revelation, it has now become clear that he was away while nursing injuries sustained in the accident.

On Boxing Day, December 26, 2025, Natembeya put smiles on the faces of hundreds of patients at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital after settling their hospital bills.

The governor cleared bills amounting to more than Sh6 million, lifting a heavy financial burden from patients and their families during the festive season.
