Nicholas Lorot, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Burat Ward, is fighting for his life after being shot by an armed assailant near Trojan Petrol Station in Isiolo Town on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that Lorot had just left a restaurant after a meeting with a senior leader from the Isiolo County Assembly when the assailant approached his vehicle and opened fire.
In an attempt to shield himself, the MCA lost his thumb while trying to block the gunshot with his right hand.
He also sustained two additional gunshot wounds to the same arm.
Lorot was quickly rescued and rushed to a hospital in Meru, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Isiolo County Assembly condemned the attack, expressing its support for Lorot and efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
A statement from the County Assembly read: “The County Assembly of Isiolo vehemently condemns the brazen shooting of Hon. Nicholas Lorot, Member of the County Assembly for Burat Ward.
The incident occurred near the Northern Galaxy Hotel in Isiolo Town, and he was immediately taken to a medical facility following the attack.”
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to peace and justice, pledging to work closely with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended swiftly.
In the Senate, Isiolo Senator Adan Fatuma Dullo also condemned the shooting, pointing out that the incident occurred in the heart of Isiolo’s Central Business District, in full view of security agencies.
“Nicholas Lorot was shot with four bullets last evening. Fortunately, the situation was contained.
This issue needs serious attention, as it happened right in the middle of Isiolo CBD,” Dullo stated.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo also expressed his outrage over the attack and urged security agencies to speed up their investigations.
“I strongly condemn this heinous act and have directed security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” said Governor Guyo.
“I wish Hon. Lorot a speedy recovery as he continues to receive treatment.
My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Burat Ward during this difficult time.”
Lorot serves as the chairperson of the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Special Programs Committee in the Isiolo County Assembly.
