Videos, photos of DP Kithure Kindiki eating in kibanda elicit mixed reactions

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has often been described as one of Kenya’s most humble political leaders.

Known for his soft-spoken nature and calm demeanor, Kindiki has over the years endeared himself to Kenyans from different walks of life, with many praising him for inspiring the younger generation through his simplicity and approachability.

On Tuesday, November 18, the DP pitched tent in Ishiara, Mbeere North, Embu County, where he engaged residents on various issues affecting the community.

He was accompanied by several UDA and Kenya Kwanza politicians.

Following the visit, Kindiki shared a series of photos and videos capturing his interaction with locals.

Among the images that stirred debate were those showing the DP enjoying a meal in a modest roadside eatery, popularly known as a kibanda.

“Had a fruitful engagement with traders and residents of Ishiara, shared a late lunch meal and appreciated their overwhelming support for Leo Wamuthende, the UDA candidate for the Mbeere North Constituency by-election, and their emphatic commitment to make him their next Member of Parliament next week,” read part of his caption.

While many Kenyans applauded Kindiki for embracing a simple lifestyle and connecting directly with ordinary citizens, others criticised the move, accusing him of engaging in the well-known political tactic of appearing humble during campaigns only to disappear once votes are secured.
